Dit boek bevat hoofdstukken
uit de boeken : "Little house in the big Woods", "Little house
on the prairie" en "On the banks of Plum Creek". Alle
kersthoofdstukken zijn voor dit boek gebruikt.
Bij "Little house in the big Woods" wordt kerstmis voorbereid in het
kleine huis. Er wordt snoep gemaakt en eten gekookt. Dan komt de familie op
bezoek. De avond voor kerst is gezellig en alle kinderen krijgen een bed en Pa
speelt viool. De volgende morgen zijn er kadootjes. Laura krijgt het mooiste
kadootje van allemaal: een pop. De kinderen krijgen pannenkoek-mannetjes als
ontbijt en spelen later nog buiten in de sneeuw.
Uit "Little house on the prairie" wordt het verhaal vertelt van de
kerst die "in het water valt" en dan ineens komt Mr. Edwards toch. Hij
heeft de kerstman gezien en vertelt aan Mary en Laura het hele verhaal. En hij
heeft de kadootjes meegebracht. De familie eten samen met Mr. Edwards het kerstdiner.
In "Christmas on Plum Creek" worden twee kerstfeesten benoemd. Het
eerste feest is in de kerk met een echte kerstboom. Laura is heel blij met het
jasje en de mof die ze krijgt. Ook staat het verhaal van de kerstpaarden er in.
In het tweede verhaal voelt eigenlijk niemand van de familie Ingalls voor het
vieren van kerst, want pa is verdwaald in een sneeuwstorm en niemand weet waar
hij is. Gelukkig, op kerstavond verminderd de storm en weet Pa de weg naar het
huis te vinden. En hoewel hij het kerstsnoep op heeft gegeten om te overleven,
is het de mooiste kerst voor de hele familie.
Het boek eindigt met het
kerstliedje "Merry, merry Christmas" en de muziek.
Tekeningen:
De plaatjes in het boek zijn
allemaal bekende plaatjes van Garth Williams. Toegevoegde waarde is dat alle
plaatjes zijn ingekleurd. Dat maakt de plaatjes dan weer heel mooi en het boek
waardevol. Ik vind de plaatjes die bij het verhaal van de prairie staan het
minst mooi. Het is het plaatje van Mr. Edwards met zijn hoofd net boven het
water en een pak op zijn hoofd en van de kerstman die wegrijdt op zijn paard en
van het snoepgoed, koeken en bekers. Andere plaatjes zijn: kinderen die spelen
in de sneeuw, Laura en Mary die snoep maken van sneeuw, de meisjes die de
kerstpaarden bewonderen, de familie in de kerk met de kerstboom, Pa in het sneeuwhol
aan het eten en de hele familie bij elkaar.
Erg mooi boek, mooie uitgave.
Ook al zijn de verhalen allemaal al bekend uit de boeken, dat de tekeningen van
Garth Williams kleur hebben gekregen, maakt het hele boek mooi. Het is een “Warm”
boek. Voor de liefhebbers van de kerstverhalen is dit boek een aanrader.

This book contains chapters
from the books: "Little house in the big Woods", "Little house
on the prairie" and "On the banks of Plum Creek". All Christmas
chapters have been used for this book.
At "Little house in the
big Woods", Christmas is prepared in the little house. Candy is made and
food is cooked. Then the family comes to visit. The evening before Christmas is
cozy and all the children get a bed and Pa plays the violin. The next morning
there are presents. Laura receives the most beautiful gift of all: a doll. The
children get pancake men for breakfast and later play outside in the snow.
From "Little House on the
Prairie" the story is told of Christmas "falling into the water"
and then all of a sudden Mr. Edward appears. He has seen Santa and tells Mary
and Laura the whole story. And he brought the presents. The family has Christmas
dinner with Mr. Edwards.
In "Christmas on Plum
Creek" two Christmas parties are named. The first party is in the church
with a real Christmas tree. Laura is very happy with the jacket and muff she
gets. The story of the Christmas horses is also included.
In the second story, none of
the Ingalls family actually feels like celebrating Christmas, because Pa is
lost in a snow storm and no one knows where he is. Fortunately, on Christmas
Eve the storm eases and Pa finds his way to the house. And although he ate the
Christmas candy to survive, it is the most beautiful Christmas for the whole
family.
The book ends with the
Christmas carol "Merry, merry Christmas" and the music.
The pictures in the book are
all famous pictures of Garth Williams. Added value is that all pictures are
coloured. That makes the pictures very beautiful and the book valuable. I like
the pictures that go with the story of the prairie the least. It's the picture
of Mr. Edwards with his head just above the water and a package on his head and
of Santa riding away on his horse and of the sweets, cakes and cups. Other
pictures are: children playing in the snow, Laura and Mary making candy from
snow, the girls admiring the Christmas horses, the family in the church with
the Christmas tree, Pa eating in the snow hole and the whole family together.
Very nice book, nice edition.
Even though the stories are all already known from the books, the fact that
Garth Williams' drawings have been given color makes the whole book beautiful.
It is a "Warm" book. This book is a must for lovers of Christmas
stories.
