Samenvatting:
Een boekje voor de allerkleinste met het hele eenvoudige verhaal van Laura’s verjaardag. Korte zinnen, simpele tekst, bekende tekst. Pa maakt een houten poppetje als vriendje voor Charlotte, Ma geeft 5 cakejes en Mary een zelfgemaakt jurkje voor Charlotte. Pa speelt viool en “pop, goes the weasel” en de tekst van het liedje staat achter in het boekje.
Het boekje heeft een muziekknop, als je daar op drukt wordt “pop,Goes the waesel” gespeeld.
Tekeningen:
De tekeningen zijn van Renée Graef. De tekeningen staan over de hele bladzijde. De eerste tekening is van een meisje dat op een bed zit, vlakbij het bed zit een hond, achter het bed loopt een poes, haar pop ligt naast haar. Op het volgende plaatje ligt het meisje op de houten vloer en kijkt naar haar pop tegen de muur en een houten mannetje. Op de volgende tekening geeft Mary Laura een jurkje voor haar pop. Ma staat achter Laura en bewondert mee het jurkje, op de tafel staat een bord met 5 cakejes. Dan volgt de tekening van de huiskamer en Pa zit op een stoel en speelt viool. Laura en Mary staan voor hem te klappen. Ma zit met Carrie op de schommelstoel voor het vuur. De laatste tekening is van Laura in slaap, naast haar de pop. Pa speelt nog viool en Ma zit met een slapende Carrie.
Eigen mening:
Simpel boekje, ik heb het voor de plaatjes. Er zit een knop op waar muziek uit komt, Louis heeft deze gemaakt, eerst was ie stuk. Mooie plaatjes van Renée Graef. Nieuwe tekeningen, nog niet bekend uit de boeken die ik al heb. Mooie tekeningen, lief. De reden waarom ik dit boekje wilde.

Summary:
A book for the very youngest with the very simple story of Laura's birthday. Short sentences, simple text, well-known text. Pa makes a wooden doll as a friend for Charlotte, Ma gives 5 cupcakes and Mary a homemade dress for Charlotte. Pa plays the violin and "pop, goes the weasel" and the lyrics of the song are in the back of the book.
The book has a music button, when you press it, "pop, Goes the waesel" is played.
Drawings:
The drawings are by Renée Graef. The drawings are all over the page. The first drawing is of a girl sitting on a bed, a dog is sitting near the bed, a cat is walking behind the bed, her doll is lying next to her. In the next picture the girl is lying on the wooden floor and is looking at her doll against the wall and a wooden man. In the next drawing Mary gives Laura a dress for her doll. Ma is standing behind Laura and admires the dress, on the table is a plate with 5 cupcakes. Then follows the drawing of the living room and Pa is sitting on a chair and playing the violin. Laura and Mary are clapping for him. Ma is sitting with Carrie on the rocking chair in front of the fire. The last drawing is of Laura asleep, next to her the doll. Pa is still playing the violin and Ma is sitting with a sleeping Carrie.
Own opinion:
Simple book, I have it for the pictures. There is a button on it that plays music, Louis made it, it was broken at first. Beautiful pictures by Renée Graef. New drawings, not yet known from the books I already have. Beautiful drawings, sweet. The reason why I wanted this book.
