Samenvatting:

Een dun boekje. Voor zover te bepalen samengesteld door Sherwood uit de De Smet-news. Er staan stukjes uit de krant in waarin Pa, Laura of Rose worden genoemd. Er staan brieven van Laura aan Mr. Sherwood in,  waarin ze om informatie vraagt en hem bedankt voor gekregen informatie. Het boekje bestaat uit veel krantenartikelen. Tevens is er een brief van Pa, welke ook is uitgetypt (om goed te kunnen lezen). Er staan handgeschreven stukken in van Pa en Laura. Documenten zijn opgenomen. Het overlijdensbericht van Pa is opgenomen.

Tekeningen:

Er staan een paar foto’s in, oa eentje van DeSmet in 1912 waarop Pa’s huis in Main street nog is te zien. De foto van Almanzo en Laura op old settler’s day in 1939 en een grote foto van het plakaat op de homestead.

Eigen mening:

Zeer dun boekje, maar zeer mooi. Veel informatie, veel authentiek. Waardevol. Door alle verspringende stukken is het een klein beetje onoverzichtelijk om te lezen. Desalniettemin interessant.

Summary:

A small booklet. As far as I can determine, compiled by Sherwood from the De Smet News. It contains newspaper excerpts mentioning Pa, Laura, or Rose. It also includes letters from Laura to Mr. Sherwood, requesting information and thanking him for it. The booklet consists of many newspaper articles. There's also a letter from Pa, which has also been typed (for easy reading). It contains handwritten entries from Pa and Laura. Documents are included. Pa's obituary is also included.

Drawings:

It includes a few photographs, including one taken of De Smet in 1912, which still shows Pa's house on Main Street. There's also a photo of Almanzo and Laura on Old Settler's Day in 1939, and a large photo of the plaque on the homestead.

My Opinion:

A very thin booklet, but very beautiful. A wealth of information, much of it authentic. Valuable. The jumping around of the sections makes it a bit confusing to read. Nevertheless, it's interesting.
