Samenvatting:

In dit boek staan 8 projecten om te maken van stof. Net als Laura destijds deed. Er is een korte inleiding dat vrouwen en meisjes in de tijd van Laura al hun naaiwerk zelf moesten doen, omdat er meestal geen winkel in de buurt was. De meisjes werd al jong geleerd om te naaien met behulp van nuttige projecten. Als ze steekjes niet goed maakten, dan moest het opnieuw. In het boek wordt uitgelegd welke hulpmiddelen je nodig hebt om te naaien en verschillende naai-methodes.

De projecten in het boek staan van makkelijk naar moeilijk. Te beginnen met het naald-boekje dat Ma aan tante Eliza gaf. Daarna komt het nine-patch-quilt van Laura. Dan de met kant afgezette zakdoekjes van Carrie en Mary’s gevlochten kleedje. Dan Alice’s borduursample en het schortje dat Laura maakt voor Charlotte. Als laatste de zonnehoed van Laura.

Alle projecten zijn duidelijk en stapsgewijs uitgelegd en met veel plaatjes voorzien. Achter in het boek zitten patronen voor de projecten.

Tekeningen:

In het boek staan vooral tekeningen om de projecten te ondersteunen. Hier en daar een paar kleine versierings-tekeningen. Het zijn wel mooie tekeningen, vooral heel duidelijk. Elk project heeft een kader. De algemene bladzijden van klosjes garen/ potlood/ spelden/ lint. Andere kaders zijn van scharen of potloden of klosjes borduurgaren of een quiltrand. Verdere plaatjes en tekeningetjes zijn toch vooral over de projecten, werkinstructies. Elk project eindigt met een plaatje van het eindresultaat.

Eigen mening:

Boek gekocht in 2021 en mee laten komen met het pakket van Susan Duggan. Het is een mooi boek, duidelijke instructies. 8 projecten. Geinig. Enkele van de projecten staan ook in Christmas projects boek. Het boek is nog erg mooi en vrijwel als nieuw.

Summary:

This book contains 8 projects to make from fabric. Just like Laura did back then. There is a short introduction that women and girls in Laura's time had to do all their own sewing, because there was usually no shop nearby. The girls were taught to sew at a young age with the help of useful projects. If they made the stitches wrong, they had to do it again. The book explains which tools you need to sew and different sewing methods.

The projects in the book are from easy to difficult. Starting with the needle book that Ma gave to Aunt Eliza. Then comes Laura's nine-patch quilt. Then Carrie's lace-trimmed handkerchiefs and Mary's braided plaids. Then Alice's embroidery sample and the apron that Laura makes for Charlotte. Finally, Laura's sun hat.

All projects are clearly and step-by-step explained and provided with many pictures. There are patterns for the projects at the back of the book.

Drawings:

The book mainly contains drawings to support the projects. Here and there a few small decoration drawings. They are beautiful drawings, especially very clear. Each project has a frame. The general pages of spools of thread / pencil / pins / ribbon. Other frames are of scissors or pencils or spools of embroidery thread or a quilt border. Further pictures and drawings are mainly about the projects, work instructions. Each project ends with a picture of the end result.

Own opinion:

Book bought in 2021 and included with the package from Susan Duggan. It is a beautiful book, clear instructions. 8 projects. Fun. Some of the projects are also in the Christmas projects book. The book is still very beautiful and almost as new.

Tekeningen:

Elke bladzijde heeft wel een klein tekeningetje, maar meestal zijn het algemeenheden. De tekeningetjes van Renée Graef zijn wel lief en mooi. Veel bladzijden hebben ook een kader. Kleine tekeningetjes zijn onder andere van een poes en konijn, een kadootje, ster en zon en klok, een bel, een liggend meisje, kinderen die sneeuwtekeningen maken, een bol wol, een boek, een meisje dat een spelletje speelt, een taart en een kaars. 

Eigen mening:

Gekregen in 2021 met de zending van Susan Duggan. Een simpel boekje, invulboekje. Ik denk dat ik het in ga vullen voor Joke en mezelf, maar dat heb ik nog niet gedaan. Ik heb het vooral vanwege de tekeningetjes van Renée Graef.

It is not a story, but a fill-in book, a friends book, in which you can keep track of what you do with your friends. Topics that occur are: who is your best friend and why, who are my other friends and their birthdays, what is the most fun to do indoors with friends and of course outdoors, who are my friends at school and which (sleepovers) have I had with friends, who are not my friends and why, what do I do when I have an argument with a friend and how do we make up. Which animals are my friends. And the “best friends”. At the bottom of many pages there is a small text from the books.

Drawings:

Every page has a small drawing, but usually they are generalities. The drawings by Renée Graef are sweet and beautiful. Many pages also have a frame. Small drawings include a cat and a rabbit, a present, a star and a sun and a clock, a bell, a girl lying down, children making snow drawings, a ball of wool, a book, a girl playing a game, a cake and a candle.

Own opinion:

Received in 2021 with the shipment from Susan Duggan. A simple booklet, fill-in booklet. I think I'm going to fill it in for Joke and myself, but I haven't done that yet. I mainly have it because of the drawings by Renée Graef.

Dit boek heeft wel een kleine inleiding en bij elke maand een tekstje. Verder is het een invulboek, een dagboek. Elke maand heeft een begintekst uit een van de boeken die zijdelings wel iets te maken heeft met de maand. Zo heeft de maand juli een stukje uit Farmer Boy van 4 juli, de maand november uit Little House in the Big Woods: over de verzameling eten op zolder. De maand mei uit On the Banks of Plum Creek een stukje waarbij de meisjes naar de steen rennen door het natte gras voor de zonsopkomst. Voor elke maand zijn ongeveer 12 lege pagina’s beschikbaar. 

Tekeningen:

Elke bladzijde heeft een rand van kleine tekeningetje, passend bij de maand. Zo heeft januari sneeuwvlokjes, maart groene blaadjes, april vogeltjes, juli bloemetjes, augustus groenten, oktober herfstbladeren. Verder staan er veel algemene tekeningetjes in het boekje, zoals onder andere een schommelstoel, naaimand, kachel, lantaarn, pan, lamp, mand eieren, muisje, mais, viool, kan, schatkistje, emmer met appels. Het zijn wel mooie tekeningetjes. 

De kaft is getekend door Renée Graef.

Eigen mening:

Gekregen in 2021 met de zending van Susan Duggan. Gewoon om mijn verzameling aan te vullen. Misschien dat ik ooit wel iets verzin om het in te vullen. Het is een zeer net, nieuw boekje.

This book does have a short introduction and a text for each month. Furthermore, it is a fill-in book, a diary. Each month has an opening text from one of the books that is indirectly related to the month. For example, the month of July has a piece from Farmer Boy from July 4, the month of November from Little House in the Big Woods: about the collection of food in the attic. The month of May from On the Banks of Plum Creek has a piece where the girls run to the stone through the wet grass before sunrise. There are approximately 12 empty pages available for each month.

Drawings:

Each page has a border of small drawings, matching the month. For example, January has snowflakes, March green leaves, April birds, July flowers, August vegetables, October autumn leaves. Furthermore, there are many general drawings in the book, such as a rocking chair, sewing basket, stove, lantern, pan, lamp, basket of eggs, mouse, corn, violin, jug, treasure chest, bucket with apples. They are beautiful drawings. The cover is drawn by Renée Graef.

Own opinion:

Received in 2021 with the shipment from Susan Duggan. Just to complete my collection. Maybe I'll come up with something to fill it in sometime. It's a very neat, new book.

Het boek is opgedeeld in drie hoofdstukken: kerst-decoraties, kerst-kadootjes en kerst-recepten. Uit andere knutselboeken zijn ook projecten gehaald, maar deze hebben wel met kerst te maken. Wat betreft kerstdecoraties worden popcorn-slingers beschreven en de muskietnet-zakjes die Carrie en Grace diezelfde avond maakten. De sleebellen van Almanzo en Ma’s gestreepte inpakpapier. Verder kerstboom-versiering en Ma’s ster-rand voor een plank.

Als kerstkadootjes staan beschreven: het naaldboekje voor Aunt Eliza, de clove-apple voor ma. Mary’s gevlochten kleed en Carrie’s met kant afgezette zakdoekjes. Laura’s geborduurde fotolijstje en de kralenketting die Laura en Mary voor Carrie maakten uit Ma’s kralen-doos.

De recepten zijn pannenkoek-mannetjes, popcorn-balls, de hartgevormde koeken en een pie en natuurlijk molasses-on-snow snoepgoed.

Tekeningen:

Het boek heeft heel veel tekeningen. Sowieso heeft iedere bladzijde een rand van versierde dennentakken, elke keer hetzelfde. Bij alle projecten worden dingen uitgelegd met tekeningen. De tekeningen zijn mooi en duidelijk.

Eigen mening:

Boek heb ik besteld in november 2020 en ontvangen in februari 2021. Kwam uit Engeland. Corona-tijd…

Boek is erg netjes en zelfs nog compleet met de knutsel-spulletjes. Het boek is netjes en leuk om te hebben.

De projecten zijn duidelijk beschreven en ook goed voor kinderen. Ze zijn niet te moeilijk, voorzien van veel plaatjes. In het zakje zitten bruikbaarheden, maar het is niet helemaal compleet, de knopen zijn er bijvoorbeeld wel uit gehaald. Het zakje is stuk.

Summary:

The book is divided into three chapters: Christmas decorations, Christmas gifts and Christmas recipes. Projects have also been taken from other craft books, but these do have to do with Christmas. As for Christmas decorations, popcorn garlands are described and the mosquito net bags that Carrie and Grace made that same evening. Almanzo's sleigh bells and Ma's striped wrapping paper. Also Christmas tree decorations and Ma's star border for a shelf.

As Christmas gifts are described: the needlebook for Aunt Eliza, the clove-apple for Ma. Mary's braided dress and Carrie's lace-trimmed handkerchiefs. Laura's embroidered picture frame and the beaded necklace that Laura and Mary made for Carrie from Ma's bead box.

The recipes are pancake men, popcorn balls, the heart-shaped cookies and a pie and of course molasses-on-snow candy.

Drawings:

The book has a lot of drawings. In any case, every page has a border of decorated pine branches, the same every time. Things are explained with drawings in all projects. The drawings are beautiful and clear.

Own opinion:

I ordered the book in November 2020 and received it in February 2021. Came from England. Corona time…

The book is very neat and even complete with the craft supplies. The book is neat and nice to have.

The projects are clearly described and also good for children. They are not too difficult, with many pictures. The bag contains useful things, but it is not completely complete, for example the buttons have been removed. The bag is broken.

Geen foto’s of tekeningen in dit boek. Het enige plaatje is vooraan in het boek een kaart van Amerika waarin de staten die met het verhaal te maken hebben zijn aangegeven en daarop enkele plaatjes van een draak, sprinkhaan, vis, auto, beker koffie.

Eigen mening:

Er ver gezocht boek en moeilijk te lezen. Niet uitdagend. Geen must-read. Ik vond het verhaal niet makkelijk te volgen.

No photos or drawings in this book. The only picture is a map of America at the front of the book in which the states that are related to the story are indicated and on it some pictures of a dragon, grasshopper, fish, car, cup of coffee.

Own opinion:

A far-fetched book and difficult to read. Not challenging. Not a must-read. I found the story not easy to follow.

Er staan verschillende liedjes in het boek, met overal een kort tekstje bij. De liedjes komen uit alle boeken van Laura Ingalls Wilder. Ook de noten staan er bij en de tekst van de liedjes. De tekstjes zijn vrij vrij uit de boeken overgenomen, dus het zijn niet echt Laura’s woorden. Soms zijn het samenvattingen; zoals bij “Home,sweet, Home” waarbij staat dat ze naar de stad zijn geweest en nu de zon daalt en ze naar huis rijden zijn ze bijna thuis. Of bij “Polly-Wolly-Doodle” dat het orgel voor Mary is gekocht en dat Pa muziek maakt op de viool, nog zonder het orgel.

Tekeningen:

De voorkant is typisch Renée Graef. De andere tekeningen zijn meer schaduwen. Er staan een paar kleine algemene tekeningetjes onder de liedjes, zoals een wastobbe, Een ketel boven vuur, een gedekte tafel.

De schaduwtekeningen zijn van een dansend gezin, Laura en Carrie die handje-klap doen, Mary en Laura die hun gebedje opzeggen in de avond, een buggy, Pa en de meisjes op independence day, dansende meisjes en volwassenen, pa en ma bij een kampvuur, Ma met een cake voor de meisjes, een meisje dat de tafel dekt, een dansend meisje bij een violist, dansende familie, een arreslee en een gezin in een huifkar.

Eigen mening:

De tekeningen zijn minder mooi als ik had gehoopt, want ik had gehoopt op alles van Renée Graef. De tekstjes zijn wel geinig, zo ook de songteksten. Het is wel echt een kinderboek. De schaduwtekeningen is duidelijk wat het uitbeeld, niet perse mooi en zeker niet levendig.

Summary:

There are several songs in the book, with a short text for each. The songs come from all the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The notes and the text of the songs are also included. The texts are taken quite freely from the books, so they are not really Laura's words. Sometimes they are summaries; such as in "Home, sweet, Home" where it says that they have been to the city and now that the sun is setting and they are driving home, they are almost home. Or in "Polly-Wolly-Doodle" that the organ has been bought for Mary and that Pa is making music on the violin, without the organ yet.

Drawings:

The front is typical Renée Graef. The other drawings are more shadows. There are a few small general drawings under the songs, such as a wash tub, a kettle over the fire, a set table. The shadow drawings are of a dancing family, Laura and Carrie clapping hands, Mary and Laura saying their prayers in the evening, a buggy, Pa and the girls on Independence Day, dancing girls and adults, Ma and Pa by a campfire, Ma with a cake for the girls, a girl setting the table, a dancing girl with a violinist, a dancing family, a sleigh and a family in a covered wagon.

My own opinion:

The drawings are less beautiful than I had hoped, because I had hoped for everything from Renée Graef. The texts are funny, as are the song lyrics. It is really a children's book. The shadow drawings are clear about what it depicts, not necessarily beautiful and certainly not lively.

Een kinderboekje met flip-flap, dus korte zinnen en vragen. En achter het flapje een verborgen plaatje met 1 woord. Eenvoudige tekst, wel geinig. Het gaat vooral over de familieleden en wat die doen.

Tekeningen:

Er is een tekening van het huis met achter het deurtje Laura en achter de hele muur het gezin Ingalls. Er is een tekening van Laura die speelt met Jack, terwijl Mary op de stoel zit te lezen, er is een tekening van ma die aan het koken is boven het vuur en een tekening van Jack bij de deur met daar achter een wolf. Op de laatste tekening speelt pa op zijn viool en liggen de meisjes in bed.

Eigen mening:

Gekocht in 2020, ontvangen in 2021. Nog in goede staat. Mooie tekeningen, eenvoudig tekst. Ik wilde het boekje voor de tekeningen. De tekeningen van Doris Ettlinger zijn bijna niet te onderscheiden van die van Renée Graef. De tekeningen zijn lief en zacht en mooi en gedetailleerd.

Summary:

A children's book with flip-flap, so short sentences and questions. And behind the flap a hidden picture with 1 word. Simple text, but funny. It is mainly about the family members and what they do.

Drawings:

There is a drawing of the house with Laura behind the door and the Ingalls family behind the entire wall. There is a drawing of Laura playing with Jack, while Mary is reading on the chair, there is a drawing of ma cooking above the fire and a drawing of Jack at the door with a wolf behind it. In the last drawing pa is playing his violin and the girls are in bed.

Own opinion:

Bought in 2020, received in 2021. Still in good condition. Beautiful drawings, simple text. I wanted the book for the drawings. The drawings by Doris Ettlinger are almost indistinguishable from those by Renée Graef. The drawings are sweet and soft and beautiful and detailed.

Een dun boekje voor de jongste kinderen. Een flip-flap boekje. De zin is een vraag, als je deze beantwoord, kun je het flapje omslaan en komt het antwoord. Alles is over kerstmis in het grote bos en dat Mary en Laura iets in hun sok krijgen en Laura ook een pop.

Tekeningen:

Tekeningetjes van Doris Ettlinger zijn meestal lief en levendig. Het eerste plaatje is van een blokhut bedekt met sneeuw, als je het flapje omklapt zie je Laura door een raam kijken. Op de volgende tekening kijkt Ma naar een mooi, uit hout gesneden, plankje, na het omklappen zie je dat ze het herderinnetje er op zet. Op het volgende plaatje staan twee meisjes te kijken naar Ma die iets klopt in een kom, na het omklappen juichen de meisjes omdat ze de lepel mogen aflikken. Op het volgende plaatje staan de meisjes ieder op een boomstronk, na het omklappen ligt Mary in de sneeuw. Dan liggen er twee meisjes te slapen op de grond onder een rode deken, een poes ligt op de deken, na het omklappen zitten de meisjes rechtop in bed. Op de volgende tekening zitten Mary en Laura voor een brandend haardvuur en hebben allebei een sok vast, na het omklappen heet Laura een snoepstok in haar hand en Mary twee rode wanten. Op het laatste plaatje houdt Laura een kado vast, als je het omklapt blijkt het een pop te zijn.

Eigen mening:

Hoewel het verhaaltje ver af staat van de echte boeken, gaat het mij om de tekeningen. En het flip-flap-idee is ook wel leuk. Nieuwe tekeningen ten opzichte van de boeken die ik al heb. Daarom wilde ik dit kinderboekje ook.

Summary:

A thin book for the youngest children. A flip-flap book. The sentence is a question, if you answer it, you can turn the flap and the answer appears. Everything is about Christmas in the big woods and that Mary and Laura get something in their stocking and Laura also gets a doll.

Drawings:

Drawings by Doris Ettlinger are usually sweet and lively. The first picture is of a log cabin covered in snow, if you turn the flap you see Laura looking through a window. In the next drawing Ma is looking at a beautiful, carved wooden board, after turning it over you see that she is putting the shepherdess on it. In the next picture two girls are looking at Ma who is beating something in a bowl, after turning it over the girls cheer because they are allowed to lick the spoon. In the next picture the girls are each standing on a tree stump, after the turn Mary is lying in the snow.Then there are two girls sleeping on the floor under a red blanket, a cat is lying on the blanket, after turning it over the girls are sitting upright in bed. In the next drawing Mary and Laura are sitting in front of a burning fire and both have a sock in their hands, after flipping it Laura has a candy cane in her hand and Mary has two red mittens. In the last picture Laura is holding a present, when you flip it over it turns out to be a doll.

Own opinion:

Although the story is far removed from the real books, I like the drawings. And the flip-flap idea is also nice. New drawings compared to the books I already have. That's why I wanted this children's book.
