Samenvatting:

In dit boek staan 8 projecten om te maken van stof. Net als Laura destijds deed. Er is een korte inleiding dat vrouwen en meisjes in de tijd van Laura al hun naaiwerk zelf moesten doen, omdat er meestal geen winkel in de buurt was. De meisjes werd al jong geleerd om te naaien met behulp van nuttige projecten. Als ze steekjes niet goed maakten, dan moest het opnieuw. In het boek wordt uitgelegd welke hulpmiddelen je nodig hebt om te naaien en verschillende naai-methodes.

De projecten in het boek staan van makkelijk naar moeilijk. Te beginnen met het naald-boekje dat Ma aan tante Eliza gaf. Daarna komt het nine-patch-quilt van Laura. Dan de met kant afgezette zakdoekjes van Carrie en Mary’s gevlochten kleedje. Dan Alice’s borduursample en het schortje dat Laura maakt voor Charlotte. Als laatste de zonnehoed van Laura.

Alle projecten zijn duidelijk en stapsgewijs uitgelegd en met veel plaatjes voorzien. Achter in het boek zitten patronen voor de projecten.

Tekeningen:

In het boek staan vooral tekeningen om de projecten te ondersteunen. Hier en daar een paar kleine versierings-tekeningen. Het zijn wel mooie tekeningen, vooral heel duidelijk. Elk project heeft een kader. De algemene bladzijden van klosjes garen/ potlood/ spelden/ lint. Andere kaders zijn van scharen of potloden of klosjes borduurgaren of een quiltrand. Verdere plaatjes en tekeningetjes zijn toch vooral over de projecten, werkinstructies. Elk project eindigt met een plaatje van het eindresultaat.

Eigen mening:

Boek gekocht in 2021 en mee laten komen met het pakket van Susan Duggan. Het is een mooi boek, duidelijke instructies. 8 projecten. Geinig. Enkele van de projecten staan ook in Christmas projects boek. Het boek is nog erg mooi en vrijwel als nieuw.

Summary:

This book contains 8 projects to make from fabric. Just like Laura did back then. There is a short introduction that women and girls in Laura's time had to do all their own sewing, because there was usually no shop nearby. The girls were taught to sew at a young age with the help of useful projects. If they made the stitches wrong, they had to do it again. The book explains which tools you need to sew and different sewing methods.

The projects in the book are from easy to difficult. Starting with the needle book that Ma gave to Aunt Eliza. Then comes Laura's nine-patch quilt. Then Carrie's lace-trimmed handkerchiefs and Mary's braided plaids. Then Alice's embroidery sample and the apron that Laura makes for Charlotte. Finally, Laura's sun hat.

All projects are clearly and step-by-step explained and provided with many pictures. There are patterns for the projects at the back of the book.

Drawings:

The book mainly contains drawings to support the projects. Here and there a few small decoration drawings. They are beautiful drawings, especially very clear. Each project has a frame. The general pages of spools of thread / pencil / pins / ribbon. Other frames are of scissors or pencils or spools of embroidery thread or a quilt border. Further pictures and drawings are mainly about the projects, work instructions. Each project ends with a picture of the end result.

Own opinion:

Book bought in 2021 and included with the package from Susan Duggan. It is a beautiful book, clear instructions. 8 projects. Fun. Some of the projects are also in the Christmas projects book. The book is still very beautiful and almost as new.
