Samenvatting:

Het is een boekje dat uit heel veel korte paragrafen is opgesteld die allemaal een titel hebben gekregen. In het begin worden er veel suggesties gedaan; dat het gezin arm was en daar niet bovenuit kon werken. Dat het een schrijversgezin is, waarbij dan even kort iets wordt gezegd over dat Samuel Ingalls (overgrootvader) al iets schreef. Dan gaat het over relaties van Laura tot de familie Wilder. Dus het gaat over Almanzo en over “leven met Laura”. Dan kort over Rose Wilder Lane en dan over de verre relatie met Franklin D. Roosevelt, waarbij vooral benoemt wordt dat Rose het niet eens was met zijn politiek, niet eens zozeer Laura. Daarna komt er een stukje over de relatie met Martha Ingalls, een heks die rond 1692 is verbrand. Ze was de kleindochter van Edmund Ingalls (maar de relatie tot wie dat terugleid tot Laura is niet vernoemd). Het verhaal is best lang en gedetailleerd. Daarna gaat het over het zware leven van de familie Ingalls: de springhanenplaag in Walnut Grove en dat ze malaria hebben gehad. De lange winter wordt hierbij niet genoemd. Hoofdstuk 4 benoemd één voor één de boeken, een korte samenvatting van het verhaal. Bij “by the shore of Silver Lake” wordt het gemengd met dat ze al in de stad wonen. Plum Creek wordt verkeerd genoemd: Pine Creek en het verhaal wordt beslist niet chronologisch vertelt. (van de toevallig ontmoeting met Rev Alden naar het overlijden van hond Jack) Dat Mary blind is geworden wordt niet genoemd. Dan wordt er nog ingegaan op de televisieserie.

Tekeningen:

Er staan geen tekeningen of foto’s in het boek. Alleen een grote foto van Laura op de voorkant. Deze is gehaald uit de gezinsfoto en wel mooi.

Eigen mening:

Het is een waardeloos boekje! Oninteressant en er kloppen dingen niet in. Er worden grote stukken in overgeslagen al heeft het een schijn van chronologie. Ik wil graag alles hebben, maar dit heeft geen toegevoegde waarde.

Het boekje lijkt geschreven door een scholier die een verslag heeft moeten maken en dingen bij elkaar heeft verzameld. Zonder dingen te verifiëren of het eigenlijk goed te weten.

It is a booklet made up of many short paragraphs, each of which has been given a title. Many suggestions are made in the beginning; that the family was poor and could not work beyond that. That it is a writing family, whereby something is briefly said about the fact that Samuel Ingalls (great-grandfather) already wrote something. Then it is about relationships from Laura to the Wilder family. So it's about Almanzo and about “living with Laura”. Then briefly about Rose Wilder Lane and then about the distant relationship with Franklin D. Roosevelt, mainly mentioning that Rose did not agree with his politics, not so much Laura. Then comes a piece about the relationship with Martha Ingalls, a witch who was burned around 1692. She was the granddaughter of Edmund Ingalls (but the relation to whom this leads back to Laura is not mentioned). The story is quite long and detailed. Then it talks about the difficult life of the Ingalls family: the grasshopper plague in Walnut Grove and that they had malaria. The long winter is not mentioned. Chapter 4 names the books one by one, a short summary of the story. “By the shore of Silver Lake” is mixed with the fact that they already live in the city. Plum Creek is incorrectly called: Pine Creek and the story is definitely not told chronologically. (from the meeting with Rev Alden to the death of dog Jack) That Mary has become blind is not mentioned. Then the television series will be discussed.

Drawings:

There are no drawings or photos in the book. Only a large photo of Laura on the front. This was taken from the family photo and it is beautiful.

Own opinion:

It's a worthless book! Uninteresting and things don't add up. Large parts are skipped, although it has a semblance of chronology. I like to have everything, but this has no added value.

The booklet seems to have been written by a student who had to make a report and collected things together. Without verifying things or actually knowing it well.
