Een vrij nieuw boek geschreven door William Anderson. Over de tijd van de familie Ingalls in Walnut Grove. Het is meestal bekende tekst, maar ook wel weer prettig geschreven.

In het boek wordt ook ingegaan op bezoekers van het museum, op de televisieserie en de spelers daarin. Er wordt ingegaan op brieven die ooit zijn geschreven aan Laura en aan de tijd dat de familie in Walnut Grove woonde. Er is achtergrond-informatie over de tijd dat de Ingallses er woonden, maar er wordt ook ingegaan op het bezoek van Garth Williams toen hij de boeken tekende en het schrijven van de boeken, met correspondentie tussen Rose en Laura.

Dit boekje gaat geheel en al over Walnut Grove en de links met Laura Ingalls Wilder. Het begint met een uitgebreid stuk over de speech die Laura in Detroit heeft gehouden en vertelt verder over de ontwikkeling van Walnut Grove als bekende plaats. De familie Gordon die gaandeweg zijn grond heeft opengesteld voor bezoekers aan Plum Creek. Het ontwikkelen van het museum en wat daar allemaal staat. Er wordt in het laatste hoofdstuk ook veel aandacht besteedt aan de TV-serie en de mensen daarvan die Walnut Grove bezoeken. Er staan ook verschillende interviews in met mensen uit de TV serie over hun ervaringen of mensen die iets moois gemaakt hebben wat met Laura te maken heeft. Er wordt ingegaan op de sprinkhanenplaag die Walnut Grove heeft geteisterd en over de ontwikkeling van de stad. Ook staat er extra informatie in over Nellie Owens. Ook staat er een stukje in het boek over de periode dat de familie bij Oom Peter inwoonde en dan ook over Freddie.

Tekeningen:

Er staan veel mooie, scherpe foto’s in het boek en enkele bekende tekeningen van Garth Williams of Helen Sewell. Ook foto’s van Helen Sewell, Mildred Boyle en Garth Williams.

In het boekje staan veel foto's. Er staan foto's in van items van Laura en haar familie die niet zo bekend zijn, zoals Laura's naaimandje, quilts, de Fifth Reader van Mary.

Ook staan er foto’s in van de drie meisjes die samen Nellie Oleson vormen en van de familie Nelson en Moses en de familie Masters.

Natuurlijk staan er bekende foto’s in het boek van Laura, Almanzo en de familie Ingalls, ook van Pa en Ma. Ook Plum Creek staat op de foto. Er is een duidelijke copie van het eerste handgeschreven hoofdstuk van het boek en een brief van Laura aan Rose. Zo zijn ook de getekende plattegrondjes van Laura duidelijk geplaatst en er is een grote plattegrond van Walnut Grove in 1874/1879. Er is een niet zo bekende foto van Rose en natuurlijk foto’s van Rocky Ridge Farm.

Foto’s van Walnut Grove zelf, zoals van de kerk. En heel veel foto’s van de spelers uit de TV-serie.

Eigen mening:

Het is een mooi boek, mooie foto’s, mooi verhaal. Het verhaal is zo geschreven dat het prettig is om te lezen. De informatie is duidelijk bij elkaar gezet en er staan toch weer onbekende foto’s in, waar William Anderson toegang tot weet te krijgen.

A fairly new book written by William Anderson. About the Ingalls family's time in Walnut Grove. It is usually well-known text, but also pleasantly written.

The book also discusses visitors to the museum, the television series and the players in it. It discusses letters once written to Laura and the time the family lived in Walnut Grove. There is background information about the time the Ingallses lived there, but it also discusses Garth Williams' visit when he draws the books and the writing of the books, with correspondence between Rose and Laura.

This booklet is all about Walnut Grove and its links to Laura Ingalls Wilder. It starts with an extensive piece about the speech Laura gave in Detroit and continues about the development of Walnut Grove as a famous place. The Gordon family who gradually opened their land to visitors to Plum Creek. Developing the museum and what is there. The final chapter also focuses on the TV series and the people who visit Walnut Grove. There are also several interviews with people from the TV series about their experiences or people who have created something beautiful that has to do with Laura. It discusses the locust plague that has ravaged Walnut Grove and the development of the city. It also contains additional information about Nellie Owens. There is also a piece in the book about the period when the family lived with Uncle Peter and also about Freddie.

Drawings:

There are many beautiful, sharp photos in the book and some well-known drawings by Garth Williams or Helen Sewell. Also photos by Helen Sewell, Mildred Boyle and Garth Williams.

The booklet contains many photos. It contains photos of items belonging to Laura and her family that are not well known, such as Laura's sewing basket, quilts, Mary's Fifth Reader.

It also contains photos of the three girls who make up Nellie Oleson and of the Nelsons and Moses families and the Masters family.

Of course there are well-known photos in the book of Laura, Almanzo and the Ingalls family, also of Ma and Pa. Plum Creek is also in the photo. There is a clear copy of the first handwritten chapter of the book and a letter from Laura to Rose. Laura's drawn maps are also clearly placed and there is a large map of Walnut Grove in 1874/1879. There is a, not so well known photo, of Rose and of course photos of Rocky Ridge Farm.

Photos of Walnut Grove itself, such as the church. And lots of photos of the players in the TV series.

Own opinion:

It is a beautiful book, beautiful photos, beautiful story. The story is written in such a way that it is pleasant to read. The information is clearly put together and it contains unknown photos, to which William Anderson manages to gain access.
