Samenvatting:

Een dun boekje van een familie die gezamenlijk alle musea-sites van Laura Ingalls Wilder heeft bezocht. Het is een gezin dat deed aan homeschooling en gezamenlijk een liefde voor Laura Ingalls heeft opgebouwd. Over elke locatie wordt een stukje vertelt en ook wel wat er te zien is. Alle bekende sites komen aan bod, maar ook South Troy, Westville, Vinton en Keystone. Er worden per locatie belangrijke plaatsen genoemd. Bij veel dingen wordt ook verwezen naar websites en ook heeft de familie filmpjes gemaakt, welke op internet beschikbaar zijn. Er staan 13 sites benoemd in het boek.

Tekeningen:

Het zijn allemaal foto’s. Sommige zijn bekende foto’s van de Herbert Hoover Library, maar de meeste zijn van het gezin zelf en ze staan er ook zelf op. De foto’s zijn scherp en mooi en soms vernieuwend. Er staat een foto in van huis in Pepin en van de binnen- en buitenkant van de gereconstrueerde blokhut in Kansas, maar ook een foto van het bord op de Ingalls Homestead in Chariton County. Meerdere foto’s van Walnut Grove, zoals de kerkklok en het museum. Een fotootje van South Troy begraafplaats en natuurlijk foto’s van het hotel in Burr Oak. Een foto van de kerk in De Smet, maar ook van Pa’s huis en het landmetershuis. En natuurlijk van de steen op de homestead. Een foto van de kerk in Spring Valley en van de kerk in Westville. Foto’s van Mansfield ontbreken zeker niet. De foto’s zijn vooral van buitenaanzicht van huizen en kerken. Het boek eindigt met Malone en Vinton en Key Stone.

Eigen mening:

Het is eigenlijk een mooi, dun, informatief boekje. Het is op een heel leesbare manier samengesteld. De christelijkheid, maar ook de liefde voor LIW spat er best vanaf. En toch heeft het vernieuwing en informatie in zich. Het is een mooi boekje. De foto’s zijn mooi.

A small book by a family who jointly visited all of Laura Ingalls Wilder's museum sites. They are a family that are homeschooled and built a shared love for Laura Ingalls. A bit is said about each location and also what there is to see. All well-known sites are covered, as well as South Troy, Westville, Vinton and Keystone. Important places are mentioned per location. Many things also refer to websites and the family has also made videos, which are available on the internet. There are 13 sites mentioned in the book.

Drawings:

There are many photos. Some are well-known photos from the Herbert Hoover Library, but most are of the family itself and they are included. The photos are sharp and beautiful and sometimes innovative. It includes a photo of the house in Pepin and the interior and exterior of the reconstructed log cabin in Kansas, as well as a photo of the sign at the Ingalls Homestead in Chariton County. Several photos of Walnut Grove, such as the church bell and the museum. A photo of South Troy cemetery and of course photos of the hotel in Burr Oak. A photo of the church in De Smet, but also of Pa's house and the surveyor's house. And of course the stone on the homestead. A photo of the church in Spring Valley and the church in Westville. Photos of Mansfield are certainly not lacking. The photos are mainly of exterior views of houses and churches. The book ends with Malone and Vinton and Key Stone.

Own opinion:

It's actually a nice, thin, informative book. It is put together in a very readable way. The Christianity, but also the love for LIW, really shines through. And yet it contains innovation and information. It is a beautiful book. The photos are beautiful.
