Samenvatting:

In het boek worden eerst verschillende liedjes beschreven en gelinkt aan de familie Ingalls. Voorbeelden zijn: “Buy a Broom” en “a railroad man for me” en “Pop, goes the weasel”. Andere liedjes zijn: “Wait for the wagon”, “Rock me to sleep”, “My Sabbath Home”en “oft in the stilly night”. De herkomst van het lied wordt genoemd, de link met de familie Ingalls en wat history. Achterin het boek staan van alle genoemde liedjes de bladmuziek.

De foto’s van Leslie A. Kelly zijn mooi en scherp en goed gelukt. Het zijn ook bekende foto’s van de familie en de huizen. Helaas wel alle foto’s in zwart-wit. Foto’s in dit boek zijn: Ma’s huis op de homestead, Pa’s viool, het huis in Mansfield, vanaf de bok van een kar, een huifkar, de blokhut op de prairie met de huifkar, paginagroot de tekening van Laura in Burr Oak door Cheryl Harness, een trein in de sneeuw, besneeuwde prairievlakte, een scene van een Laura Ingalls Wilde pageant, de Wilder’s electrola, interieur landmetershuis, een tekening van een begrafenis door Harvey Dunn, de slaapkamer van Pa en Ma in het huis in De Smet, foto’s van Laura op verschillende leeftijden en familiefoto van de familie Ingalls, de blokhut in Pepin in de sneeuw en de trouwfoto van Almanzo en Laura, een stoomlocomotief, een tekening van Harvey Dunn van een man achter ossen, Laura bij een auto, nog een tekening van Cheryl Harness van Almanzo en Laura in de buggy, een foto van Almanzo en Laura in 1942, nog een keer pa’s viool. Eigen mening:

Mooi boek. Er zit ook een CD bij met de muziek. De foto’s zijn mooi en duidelijk, ook al zijn ze bekend. Interessant boekje.

Summary:

The book first describes several songs and links them to the Ingalls family. Examples are: “Buy a Broom” and “a railroad man for me” and “Pop, goes the weasel”. Other songs are: “Wait for the wagon”, “Rock me to sleep”, “My Sabbath Home” and “oft in the stilly night”. The origin of the song is mentioned, the link with the Ingalls family and some history. The sheet music of all the songs mentioned can be found at the back of the book.

The photos by Leslie A. Kelly are beautiful and sharp and well done. They are also well-known photos of the family and the houses. Unfortunately, all the photos are in black and white. Photographs in this book include: Ma’s home on the homestead, Pa’s fiddle, the house in Mansfield, from the front of a wagon, a covered wagon, the log cabin on the prairie with the covered wagon, a full-page drawing of Laura in Burr Oak by Cheryl Harness, a train in the snow, snow-covered prairie plains, a scene from a Laura Ingalls Wilde pageant, Wilder’s electrola, the interior of a surveyor’s house, a drawing of a funeral by Harvey Dunn, Pa and Ma’s bedroom in the house in De Smet, photographs of Laura at various ages and a family photo of the Ingalls family, the log cabin in Pepin in the snow and the wedding photo of Almanzo and Laura, a steam locomotive, a drawing by Harvey Dunn of a man behind oxen, Laura by an automobile, another drawing by Cheryl Harness of Almanzo and Laura in the buggy, a photo of Almanzo and Laura in 1942, Pa’s fiddle again. Another drawing by Cheryl Harness of the girls dancing and Pa playing the violin, a photo of a lamp and a book, the surveyor's house in the snow and a Sunday school book. Two more drawings by Harvey Dunn; of the woman with the bunch of flowers on the prairie and the close up of the woman working. Then photos of a church window, the church in Walnut Grove with Pa's bell and Rose with the Sunday school. The last photo is of Laura in 1937. There are no photos or pictures with the sheet music.

My own opinion:

A beautiful book. There is also a CD with the music. The photos are beautiful and clear, even though they are familiar. Interesting book.
