Dit dunne boekje begint met het algemene verhaal over Laura Ingalls en ook Rose. Over hoe de boeken zijn geschreven en zijn begonnen. Ook wordt er verteld over Walnut Grove. Hoe het stadje is ontstaan en gegroeid. Er worden personen genoemd. Er worden ook stukjes aangehaald uit brieven tussen Laura en Rose. Verder wordt er ook ingegaan op hoe Laura de informatie verzamelde voor haar boek. Er gaat een hoofdstuk in het boekje in op het huidige Walnut Grove en hoe het is ontwikkelt als museum voor Laura Ingalls. Als laatste gaat het over dat Garth Williams die op bezoek komt bij Plum Creek.

Tekeningen:

Er staan veel foto's in het boekje. De bekende foto's van de familie, Rose, Laura, Grace, het huis in Mansfield. Verder zijn er foto's van Plum Creek en het porseleinen doosje dat Laura met kerst kreeg. Veel tekeningen van Helen Sewell en stukjes uit de boeken, zoals geschreven kladversie van Laura en een uitgetypte bladzijde van Rose. Ook een foto van Karen Grassle op de oever van Plum Creek en van het museum in Walnut Grove. Verder nog foto's van Garth Williams bij Plum Creek en bij zijn ontvangst in Walnut Grove.

Eigen mening:

Het boekje heeft een “rare” vorm, vierkant, maar is niettemin wel mooi. Veel foto’s, interessante tekst.

Summary:

This book begins with the general story of Laura Ingalls and Rose, covering how the books were written and how they began. It also tells about Walnut Grove, how the town originated and grew, and mentions people. Excerpts from letters between Laura and Rose are also quoted. Furthermore, it discusses how Laura gathered the information for her book. A chapter discusses present-day Walnut Grove and how it developed as a museum for Laura Ingalls. Finally, it discusses Garth Williams visiting Plum Creek.

Drawings:

The book contains many photographs. The familiar photos of the family, Rose, Laura, Grace, and the house in Mansfield. There are also photos of Plum Creek and the china box Laura received for Christmas. It also includes many drawings by Helen Sewell and excerpts from the books, such as a written draft by Laura and a typed page by Rose. There is also a photo of Karen Grassle on the banks of Plum Creek and of the museum in Walnut Grove. Also included are photos of Garth Williams at Plum Creek and his reception in Walnut Grove.

My own opinion:

The booklet has an unusual square shape, but is nevertheless beautiful. Lots of photos and interesting text.
