Dit is een vrij dik boek van 306 bladzijden in totaal. Veel index en veel verwijzingen op het eind.
Er is heel veel informatie verzameld in dit boek over Laura Ingalls Wilder en haar leven van het begin tot het eind. Aan de hand van documenten en brieven is alles benoemd en daarvan is een verhaal gemaakt van Laura's leven. Het zijn vrij kleine letters en het is nogal een opsomming van feiten en informatie, maar het is wel interessant omdat het ook allemaal in de tijd wordt geplaatst. Je krijgt een heel algemeen beeld van Laura's leven. Het boek leest niet altijd makkelijk vanwege de kleine letters en het leest ook niet vlot door. Wel een interessant boek voor de echte verzamelaar.

Tekeningen:

Er staan geen tekeningen in het boek, alleen enkele foto's. Meest vooral bekende foto's. De foto’s staan gecentreerd bij elkaar. De foto’s zijn van Calamet Avenue in DeSmet in 1883, Laura als jonge vrouw, de familie Ingalls, Almanzo en Laura in Florida, Laura op de veranda van het huis in Mansfield, Downtown Mansfield, de aanleg van het spoor bij Ava, Almanzo aan het hooien, De keuken in het huis in Mansfield en de kamer van het Rock house, Rose op de trap in het farm house, Laura en Almanzo op Old Settlers’ Day in De Smet en Rose in 1942. Laura en Almanzo voor hun huis op de heuvel en Laura en Almanzo met bezoekers. Het eindigt met Laura in 1952 aan het signeren.

Eigen mening:

Dik boek met veel feiten en informatie, maar niet zo verhalend opgesteld, dus voor een niet-Engelstalige niet heel prettig te lezen.

This is a fairly thick book of 306 pages in total. Lots of index and lots of references at the end.

There is a lot of information gathered in this book about Laura Ingalls Wilder and her life from beginning to end. Everything has been named on the basis of documents and letters and a story has been made of Laura's life. It's pretty small print and it's quite a summary of facts and information, but it's interesting because it's all timed too. You get a very general picture of Laura's life. The book is not always easy to read because of the small print and it does not read smoothly. An interesting book for the real collector.

There are no drawings in the book, only some photographs. Most famous photos. The photos are centered together. The photos are of Calamet Avenue in DeSmet in 1883, Laura as a young woman, the Ingalls family, Almanzo and Laura in Florida, Laura on the porch of the house in Mansfield, Downtown Mansfield, the construction of the railroad at Ava, Almanzo at the hay, The kitchen in the house in Mansfield and the room of the Rock house, Rose on the stairs in the farm house, Laura and Almanzo on Old Settlers' Day in De Smet en Rose in 1942. Laura and Almanzo in front of their house on the hill and Laura and Almanzo with visitors. It ends with Laura signing in 1952.

Own opinion:

Thick book with lots of facts and information, but not very narratively written, so not very pleasant to read for a non-English speaker.
