In dit boekje staan 7 hoofdstukken.
1. Naar grootvader
Pa, ma en de meisjes rijden al vroeg met de huifkar naar grootvader en grootmoeder. Ze wonen in een grote blokhut. Laura kijkt naar hoe de tantes zich klaarmaken/ mooi maken voor het feest.
2. Dansen bij grootvader
Dan is het avond en komt het bezoek. Er zijn veel volwassenen en er wordt gedanst. Pa speelt viool. Laura kijkt naar hoe ma danst en naar pa.
3. Feestje in de stad
Nellie nodigt alle meisjes uit om bij haar feestje te komen. Ze heeft mooi speelgoed, maar niemand mag het aanraken en al zeker niet de mooie pop. Laura krijgt boeken om in te zien, als ze zich afzijdig houdt van het feestje vanwege een onvriendelijke reactie van Nellie. Uiteindelijk krijgen ze nog limonade en wat lekkers.
4. Feestje op het platteland
Nu de meisjes op een feestje in de stad zijn geweest, vindt ma dat ze hun vriendinnen ook op de boerderij moeten uitnodigen. Alle meisjes komen, maar Nellie vindt het maar niets dat ze haar schoenen uit moet doen om door het water te waden. Na een tijdje gaan de meisjes in de rivier spelen. Laura jaagt Nellie richting de oude krab en daarna in de modderpoel met de bloedzuigers.
5. Een nieuwe haarstyle
Laura gaat naar een bijeenkomst in de stad. Ze besluit haar haren anders te doen en maakt krullen op haar voorhoofd en kamt het haar achter haar oren. Ma noemt het een "gekkenlok", maar Carrie vindt het wel mooi. De meisjes ontdekken dat ma nooit haar oren laat zien.
6. De bijeenkomst
Dit is de bijeenkomst die Mary Power en Laura samen bezoeken in het huis van mevrouw Tinkham en waarbij ze tot de ontdekking komen dat het meer voor volwassenen is en dat ze liever het toegangsgeld van 10 cent hadden gehad.
7. Een verjaardagsfeestje
Laura is uitgenodigd op het feestje van Ben Woodworth. Ze krijgen een chique diner met voor ieder een hele sinaasappel en nog veel meer lekkere dingen. Daarna laat de broer van Ben iedereen voelen wat elektriciteit is en ze doen nog meer spelletjes.

Tekeningen:

De plaatjes zijn eigen en lieflijk. Zo kijkt kleine Laura toe hoe haar tantes zich mooi maken voor de spiegel. Er wordt gedanst door volwassenen op het feest. De kinderen spelen met de ark van Noach en de duwpoppetjes op het feestje van Oleson. Nellie rent weg voor de oude krab, met haar jurken omhoog, terwijl Laura verderop in het water staat te lachen. Laura heeft krullen op haar voorhoofd gemaakt en ma en Carrie kijken hoe het is. Twee meisjes staan bij een deur en in de rest van de kamer zitten volwassenen op stoelen te praten. Het laatste plaatje is van Laura aan een net gedekte tafel, tussen een meisje en jongen in en voor haar bord een in partjes gesneden sinaasappel.

Eigen mening:

Een dun boekje met verhalen uit de boeken. Het gaat mij vooral om de tekeningen, die zijn mooi en liefelijk.

Summary:

This book contains 7 chapters.

1. Going to Grandpa’s

Pa, Ma and the girls drive early in the morning in the covered wagon to Grandpa and Grandma. They live in a large log cabin. Laura watches the aunts getting ready for the party.

2. Dancing at Grandpa’s

Then it is evening and the visitors arrive. There are many adults and they are dancing. Pa plays the violin. Laura watches Ma dance and Pa playing the violin.

3. Town Party

Nellie invites all the girls to her party. She has beautiful toys, but no one is allowed to touch them and certainly not the beautiful doll. Laura gets books to look at, when she stays away from the party because of an unfriendly reaction from Nellie. In the end they get lemonade and something tasty.

4. Country Party

Now that the girls have been to a party in the town, Ma thinks they should invite their friends to the farm too. All the girls come, but Nellie doesn't like having to take off her shoes to wade through the water. After a while, the girls go and play in the river. Laura chases Nellie towards the old crab and then into the mud puddle with the leeches.

5. A new hairstyle

Laura goes to a meeting in town. She decides to do her hair differently and makes curls on her forehead and combs her hair behind her ears. Ma calls it a "lunatic fringe", but Carrie likes it. The girls discover that Ma never shows her ears.

6. The Sociable

This is the meeting that Mary Power and Laura attend together at Mrs. Tinkham's house and where they discover that it is more for adults and that they would have preferred the ten cent entrance fee.

7. A Birthday Party

Laura is invited to Ben Woodworth's party. They get a fancy dinner with a whole orange for each and lots of other tasty things. Then Ben's brother lets everyone feel what electricity is and they play more games.

Drawings:

The pictures are unique and sweet. For example, little Laura watches her aunts make themselves pretty in front of the mirror. The adults are dancing at the party. The children are playing with Noah's ark and the push dolls at Oleson's party. Nellie runs away from the old crab, with her dresses up, while Laura is laughing in the water further away. Laura has curls on her forehead and Ma and Carrie are watching how it looks. Two girls are standing by a door and in the rest of the room adults are sitting on chairs, talking. The last picture is of Laura at a neatly set table, between a girl and a boy and an orange cut into segments in front of her plate.

My opinion:

A thin book with stories from the books. I am especially interested in the drawings, which are beautiful and sweet.
