Een heel dik boek en eigenlijk de originele tekst van Pioneer Girl, het eerste project van Laura Ingalls Wilder om haar herinneringen op te schrijven. Nu helemaal uitgewerkt met extra informatie en foto’s.

Het boek is overzichtelijk ingedeeld in verschillende hoofdstukken, waarbij ook duidelijk wordt uitgelegd in het begin hoe het boek is opgezet en hoe je de informatie moet lezen. Vervolgend komt het deel dat door Laura Ingalls Wilder zelf is geschreven, onderverdeeld in de jaren Kansas/ Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Minnesota en Dakota Territory. Ook zijn er appendixen toegevoegd aan het boek over de Benders, de Gordon Party en de zangschool. Ook het afgeleidde “When grandma was a little girl” is opgenomen in het boek. 

Tekeningen:

De tekeningen van Helen Sewell en Garth Williams zijn allemaal bekend, niet alle tekeningen van hen staan in het boek, maar wel verschillende. De foto’s zijn doorgaans ook bekend, zoals van de familie Ingalls, het huis in Mansfield, familiefoto’s. Ook zijn er veel extra foto’s toegevoegd voor uitleg of verduidelijking van dingen. 

Eigen mening:

Prachtig boek! Een aanwinst! Pas vrij recent uitgegeven en verkregen. Ik heb een eerste druk. Heel mooi boek, mede omdat het origineel is geschreven door Laura Ingalls, maar ook omdat het goed is bewerkt. Echt wel een “must-have”. Een fantastisch boek! Zeer waardevol, goed geschreven door Laura, zowel als de extra toevoegingen zijn prettig om te lezen. Veel, veel informatie. Scherpe, mooie foto’s.

Summary:

A very thick book and actually the original text of Pioneer Girl, the first project of Laura Ingalls Wilder to write down her memories. Now fully elaborated with extra information and photos.

The book is clearly divided into different chapters, where it is also clearly explained at the beginning how the book is set up and how to read the information. Then comes the part that was written by Laura Ingalls Wilder herself, divided into the years Kansas/Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Minnesota and Dakota Territory. There are also appendixes added to the book about the Benders, the Gordon Party and the singing school. The derivative “When grandma was a little girl” is also included in the book.

Drawings:

The drawings by Helen Sewell and Garth Williams are all known, not all of their drawings are in the book, but several are. The photos are usually also known, such as of the Ingalls family, the house in Mansfield, family photos. There are also many extra photos added for explanation or clarification of things.

Own opinion:

Beautiful book! An asset! Only recently published and obtained. I have a first edition. Very beautiful book, partly because it was originally written by Laura Ingalls, but also because it has been well edited. Really a “must-have”. A fantastic book! Very valuable, well written by Laura, as well as the extra additions are pleasant to read. Much, much information. Sharp, beautiful photos.
